This photo came from House Beautiful. I was struck by two things: I loved the arrangement of the art (going very low) as well as the glossy black doors. In my area hollow flat doors were used often in 1960s construction of ranch houses. They were a low cost choice for inexpensive housing. Not too many of my clients love them.
What makes this decorating solution work? The doors are carefully painted a very glossy black. Both the walls and trim appear to be painted in a soft grey eggshell or matte, and the floor is a dark wood. The black is repeated in the metal of the lighting.
